Lost fishing gears and ghost-fishing in Latvian waters

A new study has been recently published in Marine Policy on estimation of amounts of abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) in Gulf of Riga and coastal areas of Latvia in collaboration between UiT The Arctic University of Norway and Latvian Maritime Academy of Riga Technical University.

Wednesday the 22.th of May the first trial lecture and disputation in the Dsolve project will take place. MSc Kristine Cerbule will held her trial lecture and defend her thesis for the Philosophiae doctor (ph.d.) degree in Natural Science, at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø.

Researching on incentives for bioplastics in aquaculture

Lorenzo Mucciarelli from Italy is one of the newest additions amongst SFI Dsolve`s PhD candidates. He is working in Research Area 4, particularly focusing on plastic pollution in the aquaculture sector, and incentives necessary to shift the industry towards the adoption of bioplastics.

Monitors the impact of lost fishing gear in the Adriatic Sea

Twice a month over a period of six month, gillnets and traps are being monitored with the help of scuba diving gear in the Valun Bay, Medulin, Istra in Croatia. The project is lead by Dorian Vodopia, PhD candidate in SFI Dsolve, and assess the impact of Abandoned, Lost, and Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) on ecosystems in the northern Adriatic Sea.

Meet SFI Dsolve at the annual Skrei Conference

"Skrei" is the name of the North Atlantic cod wandering to the shore of Lofoten and Vesterålen to spawn each winter. At the annual Skrei Conference in Myre, the research vessel FF Helmer Hanssen docks to invite the public to seminar and open boat.
