Monitors the impact of lost fishing gear in the Adriatic Sea

Twice a month over a period of six month, gillnets and traps are being monitored with the help of scuba diving gear in the Valun Bay, Medulin, Istra in Croatia. The project is lead by Dorian Vodopia, PhD candidate in SFI Dsolve, and assess the impact of Abandoned, Lost, and Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) on ecosystems in the northern Adriatic Sea.

Ghost fishing from lost fishing gear is receiving increasing attention in research and innovation. SFI Dsolve has asked 900 Norwegian fishermen what they believe causes lost gear, and about their perspectives on how to solve this challenge. The answers are presented in a chronicle published in Fiskeribladet 23.01.2024.
