SFI Dsolve and biodegradable fishing gear were showcased at this year’s Nor-Fishing. Leader of Research Area 3 Jørgen Vollstad, from SINTEF who is responsible for at-sea testing, presented the project on stage at the fishermen’s joint stand in an interview with Jan-Erik Indrestrand, Head of Communications at the Norwegian Fishermen’s Association.
Vollstad also brought examples of fishing gear made from biodegradable plastic materials, giving visitors an opportunity to take a closer look. Norway’s Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Marianne Sivertsen Næss, and State Secretary Kristina Sigurdsdottir Hansen also showed interest in the new gear materials when they visited SINTEF’s stand during the exhibition.
In his conversation with the Minister, Vollstad highlighted the need for a long-term commitment to developing biodegradable material solutions for use in the fishing industry.
