Dsolve PhD research presented on Croatian National TV

PhD student Dorian Vodopia was recently featured on Croatian national television. In the report, he shares his journey from his hometown Pula in Croatia to Tromsø, and how he researches the effects of abandoned and lost fishing gear on marine ecosystems.

In the TV feature, Dorian Vodopia recounts his academic path – from marine science studies in Pula and a Master’s in Conservation Biology in Koper, to several years of work at the Rovinj Center for Marine Research. He explains how his interest in plastic pollution, ranging from microplastics to macroplastics, led him to a PhD position in Tromsø, Norway.

As a PhD fellow at UiT and SFI Dsolve, he is now in his third year investigating the impacts of abandoned, lost, and discarded fishing gear on marine environments. Vodopia highlights that his research not only provides important scientific insights but also contributes to solutions that promote sustainable management of marine resources. The feature underlines how international collaboration and the commitment of young researchers are crucial in the fight against marine litter.
